Carolyn Alessio is the recipient of a creative writing fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and a Pushcart Prize in fiction. She is the editor of a  bilingual collection of Guatemalan children's poetry, "Las Voces de la Esperanza/The Voices of Faith."  Her  novel manuscript, El Favorito, is a finalist for the PEN/Bellwether Prize for Socially Engaged Fiction."




Theresa Amato---Public advocate,   author, Fra Noi columnist, Impresa Award recipient, and two-time national presidential campaign manager, Theresa Amato is the author of Grand Illusion, the Myth of Voter Choice in a Two-Party Tyranny (New Press, NY).  Amato, a graduate of Harvard University and NYU Law, has been a Fellow at both Harvard’s Law School and Institute of Politics, and is the exec director/founder of Citizen Works & Citizen Advocacy Center.

Maria Scagliotta DiMarco was born in Italy and lives in the United States. She has a degree in Education from Italy and in Social Work, with minors in Psychology and Spanish, from the USA. She has taught Italian at Triton College, River Grove, Illinois, and privately, for years. In September 2007 she has founded the Italian Club “I Ciceroni” which meets monthly for the preservation and practice of the Italian language and culture. In her free time she loves to write short stories and to translate writings to and from Italian.  E-mail her at: romawest11@gmail.com



Vincent L. Inserra, a first generation Italian, was born and raised in the Boston area. He served as a Navy Fighter pilot during World War II and achieved the rank of Lieutenant. He graduated from Boston College with a degree in Business Administration. In 1951, he joined the FBI as a Special Agent and served for 25 years. In 1957, he was as- signed to Organized Crime matters for 19 years combatting the Chicago Crime Syndicate. He was in charge of the C-1 Organized Crime Squad for a period of 13 years where they compiled an im- pressive record of convictions agains the Chicago mob. He received over 100 personal letters of commendation from the Director of the FBI for outstanding investigative achievements. Following retirement from the FBI, he became Corporate Security Director for Kemper Insurance in Long Grove, Illinois for 27 years. 





 Robert "Mickey" Lombardo
is a Professor in Criminal Justice and Sociology at Loyola University Chicago. His new book on organized crime in Chicago is a dispassionate look at the rise and fall of "The Outfit."  He and Vincent Inserra will have a lot to talk about!  Also watch Lombardo's interview with Carol Marin on "Chicago Tonight."






Ann Rubino is the author of "La Forestiere" in Italian Women in Chicago and Peppino, Buon’ Com’ il Pane, an intermediate-grade novel of World War II in Italy. 
While Ann was teaching professionally, she won the OHAUS Award for innovations in science teaching; took part in the creation of the New Generation Science Standards; sat on the review board of Science & Children magazine; and worked as a consultant for the Museum of Science & Industry, Chicago. She holds her MT(ASCP), B.A.Ed., and M.S. Ed. and an Endorsement in Gifted Education. Her last teaching assignment was as adjunct at Lewis University, training future teachers in methods of science teaching. Once retired, she reviewed many children’s books for the Recommends division of Science & Children and continued her work on the review board.
